Denair High School Hosts Rivera Traveling Exhibit

Diego Rivera Exhibit PosterDenair High School, with the support of the Denair Education Foundation, will display a Teacher’s Discovery Traveling Exhibit featuring the spectacular murals of Diego Rivera, considered a national treasure of Mexico. The students, staff, and the community will be able to enjoy the giant reproductions during the week of March 31 – April 4, 2014. Featuring the beautiful Sunday Afternoon in Alameda Park, the exhibit celebrates art, Spanish language, Mexican culture and history.

The exhibit also features a scene from a mural painted in the University at Chapingo in Mexico in 1926 as well as a wonderful selection, called The Flower Vendor from the series that featured calla lilies and native Mexicans.

Exhibit hours are: Monday -Wednesday 1:15 pm – 3:45 pm; Thursday – Friday 8:00 am – 3:45 pm (closed 12:05–1:05). Visitors, please check in at the office.

DHS Key Club Walk-A-Thon Scheduled

AcademicCoyoteSmallThe Denair High School Key Club is having a Walk-A-Thon on April 12, 2014, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, at the high school track. Get a team together and come out and walk. Last year participants walked 80.75 miles. Since 2007, a total of 1,032.75 miles have been logged.

The Key Club is raising money in memory of Roberta Prescott, a previous teacher, administrator, mentor and awesome woman. All the proceeds from the event will go to the American Cancer Society. Water will be provided.

Come on out and support a good cause while getting some exercise!

On March 6th, 2014, Denair Charter Academy had the pleasure of welcoming artist, Jerry DeCaire. Mr. DeCaire is an artist whose works include The Wolverine, X-Men, Thor, and one of his own creations, Malachi. He spoke with students about the way he uses math and science to create these well known characters. Through the use of geometry and proportions, he demonstrated elements like bird’s eye view, and worm’s eye view. The students sat in quiet awe as they watched Mr. DeCaire transform a cube into The Wolverine. He showed his mastery of the human body as he named and meticulously drew each muscle of the character. Students eagerly raised their hand to answer his questions and receive a personally autographed drawing. Destiny Lebow Ramirez, Ricky Robertson, and Lizbeth Cadenas were the lucky winners who received autographed, original work . All students in attendance received a photocopy of the full body drawing of Iron Man.

Denair High School Hit by Thieves

Mr. Delworth holds the chain thieves cut to gain entrance to the Ag Shop

Sometime during the early hours on Sunday March 2, 2014, the Denair High School Ag Shop was burglarized. The thieves, believed to be two adult males, entered the area by cutting a lock off of a back gate. They then cut the lock off of a storage shed and stole a portable Lincoln Electric Ranger 250 GXT portable welding unit (red in color), a custom fabricated trailer that DHS students made (black frame with purple plywood), a gas welding torch with hoses and valves, 2 grey welding helmets, 1 large yellow grinder, 1 red small grinder, a box of 7018 welding rod, 1 red rototiller, 1 oxygen tank, and 1 acetylene tank. To exit the premises, the thieves used bolt cutters to cut a link off of a very large chain that was used to secure the entrance/exit gates.
