Stanislaus County Office of Education is hosting its annual Elementary Spelling Championship on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, 5:00 pm, at Gregori High School in Modesto. Denair Academic Avenues is sending three students, Isabella, Leilani, and alternate Allison Neal. Denair Elementary School is sending Madison Ainslie, Devyn and alternate Berea. Tami Sondeno, fifth grade teacher at Denair Academic Avenues, has been coaching the students by going over word lists and practicing for hours. Word lists are available to participating schools online. The Spelling Master selects 90% of the words used in the competition from the word list, with 10% of the words from an unpublished list. The top two spellers at the event will represent Stanislaus County in the state championship.
Denair High Celebrates Homecoming
Denair High School celebrated its 2013 football homecoming with a community parade on Friday afternoon. The procession followed its standard parade route down Main Street, making its way past Denair Elementary School, before returning to the High School stadium. The Denair High School Marching Band led the parade followed by the homecoming court, class floats and cheerleaders. A photo gallery is available for your viewing pleasure.
Harvest Kick-Off Festival
Come join the fun at Gateway Community Church’s Harvest Kick-Off Arts & Crafts Festival this Saturday, 9:00 am – 3:00 pm, at 3550 Lester Road, across from the High School. There will be games, shopping, raffles, a silent auction, and fun! Proceeds from the event support the Synergy Drama/Outreach and GCC Ministries.
Denair Vendors in the Park
Denair Vendors in the Park will be hosting their monthly event this Sunday, October 13, 2013, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, in Sterling Ranch Park, the corner of Salluce Drive and McCauly Drive.
Come on out and bring your four legged friends to support Community Veterinary Clinic and Friends of Turlock Animal Shelter with Denair Vendors in the Park Wag ‘N Walk event!
Free Admission, Free Dog Contests, Free Face Painting, Free Doggie Dental Exams, Free Entertainment! Over 50 Vendors will be on hand for your shopping enjoyment.
We will have the Denair Fire Department out so the kids can climb around on the fire truck. Cruzin’ Critters Wisdom thru Wildlife will be out with lot’s of critters to touch! Also a dog agility demenstration to show off some terrific dog skills, Friends of Turlock Animal Shelter with their Pet Adoptions Truck and Califid Rescue will also be there with their animals for your enjoyment
Vendors Booth cost is $20 for a 10×10 space. Vendors need to be set up between 7:00-9:00 am and move vehicles across and down street to allow for other unloads and customer parking.
Dog Walk Participants are $20 per family and you will receive one free goodie bag at the end of walk. Sign-up will begin at 10:00 am through 10:45 am. The Dog Walk will start at 11:00 am.
Free Entry of Pet Contests to start approximately 12:00 noon:

Winners will be determined by audience.

Classic Car Show in Denair
Earl’s BBQ is hosting the 1st Annual Earl’s BBQ Classic Car Show on Saturday, October 19, 4:00-8:00 pm, at 4701 Main Street, Denair. All hot rods, street rods and muscle cars are welcome, and the first 35 cars registered are guaranteed parking at the event. Pre-registration is only $15 and includes one rib dinner per car. Registration at the event is $20. The event will include awards for the vehicles, a 50/50 raffle and music with host DJ Gene Adams.
Proceeds from the show will benefit a local Turlock resident, Doug Anderson, who is in need of a hip replacement. Both Doug and his wife lost their jobs and he is two years away from Medicare coverage. Come on out and enjoy beautiful classic cars, eat some southern style BBQ and lend a helping hand to a worthy local cause!
