Destiny Lebow Ramirez, Jerry DeCaire, Ricky Robertson, and Lizbeth Cadenas

On March 6th, 2014, Denair Charter Academy had the pleasure of welcoming artist, Jerry DeCaire. Mr. DeCaire is an artist whose works include The Wolverine, X-Men, Thor, and one of his own creations, Malachi. He spoke with students about the way he uses math and science to create these well known characters. Through the use of geometry and proportions, he demonstrated elements like bird’s eye view, and worm’s eye view. The students sat in quiet awe as they watched Mr. DeCaire transform a cube into The Wolverine. He showed his mastery of the human body as he named and meticulously drew each muscle of the character. Students eagerly raised their hand to answer his questions and receive a personally autographed drawing. Destiny Lebow Ramirez, Ricky Robertson, and Lizbeth Cadenas were the lucky winners who received autographed, original work . All students in attendance received a photocopy of the full body drawing of Iron Man.

Denair Charter Academy Hosts Information Night

DCA LogoDenair Charter Academy, in conjunction with National School Choice Week, is hosting a special Information Night on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at 6:30 pm. The event will include poetry readings, school tours and a question & answer session. More information regarding the event is available by calling (209) 632-0917.

National School Choice Week provides an unprecedented opportunity, every January, to shine a positive spotlight on the need for effective education options for all children.

Independently planned by a diverse and growing coalition of individuals, schools, and organizations, National School Choice Week features thousands of unique events and activities across the country. The Week allows participants to advance their own messages of educational opportunity, while uniting with like-minded groups and individuals across the country.

Participants in National School Choice believe that parents should be empowered to choose the best educational environments for their children. Supporters plan events that highlight a variety of school choice options — from traditional public schools to public charter schools, magnet schools, private schools, online learning, and homeschooling.

DCA Partners with Youth on Course

Youth on CourseIn partnership with NCGA and Stevinson Ranch Golf Club, Denair Charter Academy has been awarded a grant to provide deserving youth the opportunity to develop life skills and values through golf. Youth on Course is a 12 week clinical series that not only teaches the basics of golf fundamentals, rules and etiquette, but also provides space for discussion of life skills and values and how they relate to both golf and life. The curriculum involves values of the day (responsibility, respect, teamwork, determination, confidence, leadership, integrity, honesty, sportsmanship and nutrition) and critical thinking problems.

Jim Nuss, DCA’s Youth on Course advisor, stated after the first session at Stevenson Ranch, “The students were introduced to a life skills theme (responsibility and respect) and then were directed by a fitness instructor to do 15 minutes of stretching and aerobics. The students then worked on putting and had a competition to see who could get a hole in one, and one student did. By the end of the session, the students were happy and interacting with each other, and all agreed to come next week. It was so awesome to interact with these students outside of the classroom.”
